Classroom Management

I am a firm believer in recognizing mature decision-making and positive behavior in my classes.  Thus, instead of handing out multiple demerits, I like students to feel they have the chance to make good choices and learn from their behavior.  Akin to a “classroom economy”, I have a Lab Bucks and Strikes policy.

Earning Bucks - Students may earn lab bucks for exceeding my standards and showing extraordinary diligence or citizenship.  As in our society, when you work hard at your job, you earn a salary.  Students who work hard can earn “Lab Bucks” in my class.  As part of our classroom economy, bucks can be used to *buy* privileges.  Here is the procedure for earning bucks:

**Earning a buck prompts a student’s name to be posted on the board under the dollar sign

**Mrs. L. keeps a record of bucks earned

**Students get a paper buck at the end of class

**Bucks may be given for keeping up during class review sessions – encouraging study habits

**Bucks can be accumulated and “spent” in my class

**Mrs. L's homeroom students may also earn bucks by applying for and being “paid” to do a classroom job.  Job offers are given and salaries earned on Fridays.  New jobs are chosen monthly.

If student shows a consistent effort to earn bucks, his/her name will be submitted to the office for PBIS credits

Students are responsible for keeping and accumulating bucks in a safe place throughout the year:

**Lost bucks will not be replaced

**Bucks may not be traded or given away

**Lab bucks may not be copied or duplicated.

**Bucks may not combined with another person’s

**All bucks must be spent by the 20134-2015 school years’ end

**If all students complete and return their homework in class on the day it is due, all will earn one buck

**You may save your bucks to earn bigger rewards

**Lab Bucks are often used for random raffles, “right to rent” special supplies, auctions,  Homework coupons and unexpected treats

Earning Strikes - Failure to follow school rules or honor my posted and reviewed classroom expectations in any way will result in a Strike.  When you get a strike:

** Name written on board under strike symbol

** Offender owes me $3 in lab bucks.  If unable to pay, a demerit is issued.

** Each strike will be logged

** Receive an I or N in Conduct that day

Strikes accumulate.  Upon earning a “third” strike, the following consequences occur:

1.    Parent is called or emailed

2.    Student is assigned to write a behavior essay and have it signed by parent by a determined date

3.    Office is notified

Serious offenses may result in an immediate detention and will be communicated to the office.
